Notes from Machine Room Planning Group meeting on 513 tidiness. 14/09/2000.

Present: T.Cass, R.Minchin, T.Whibley, D.Underhill, M.Vergari(for part).

Tony commented that it had again been a long time since our last meeting. We briefly discussed the MRP web page
http://it-support-mrp.web.cern.ch/it-support-mrp/ and Tony said he would ask Fabio Trevisani to make the necessary links to it.

Tony described the first half of 2000 as being a period of defining things to be done and roles to be filled. Dave is the TSO for B513 and Dick is the Territorial Safety Assistant. Safety Linkmen have been established for key groups except IS who are still to appoint theirs..

Tony commented that the removal of junk and packaging and got off to a successful start but there was some backsliding. Some machines in the room and in the vault are probably no longer needed.

We discussed the need to have the space under the false floor cleaned and old cables removed. This cannot be done before the end of LEP (early November). However, we should have the budget to pay for this to be done. Dick suggested that this task should be a fixed part of the annual cleaning so that once done, it doesn't degenerate to the state it is in at present.

Dave commented that there are some 'caged' pallettes available in the coridoor by the vault into which obsolete computer equipment should be put for removal to the Recuperation Service. Nobody volunteered to actually perform this task.

It was agreed that Dick would call the Recuperation Service to ask what they would like us to do with the equipment in the corridoor. Once this has been cleared, further equipment that might have some future use could be put there, preferrably on plaettes ready for removal, and advertised as available. We should review this equipment to check that reuse is sensible. i.e we should not sell DLT equipment if PDP is trying to phase out use of DLT's. Where possible, we chould check on availability of documentation to facilitate the sale of equipment but we should use our time eliminating rubbish rather than chasing documentation.

It was agreed that Tim and Dick would identify all of the equipment in the Computer Room, probably in an Excel spreadsheet, by name, location, type and person responsible. There was some discussion on how to designate racks and locations within them. We would liaise with the appropriate safety linkman for the identification and removal of unused equipment and any junk.

It was agreed that the situation regarding packaging was currently quite good. Infringements should be reported to the appropriate linkman and, if this didn't have the desired effect, copied to DSO and the respective group leader. Safety is the primary consideration and we intend to show that we are taking the task seriously.
