There were no comments on these
minutes.
BAT 186:
- There will be a follow-up meeting with TIS (in 54/2-033) to discuss issues
related to fire detection and ventilation. From
PDP
group C.Curran should be asked to attend and from TS DJU and RPM will attend.
- It is understood that EP division are providing two floors of the building
for IT use but it is up to IT to provide special equipment such as UPS, smoke
detection, and ventilation. Some of the open points of discussion are:
1) Should fire detection or extinction be used in the robots? If the
latter, it needs to be linked to the access control system.
2) As the
UPS in Bat 513 has excess capacity, should the UPS for the B186 robots come
from there?
BAT 513:
- The next meeting with ST will be held at 10:00 on 1st Feb.2000 in T.Cass'
office (31/1-002). All of the MRP working group will attend.
- Our mandate is to plan for installations of computer equipment that will
be used until 2005. This year we need to consider the installation of about
400 PC's for Test Bed applications. T.Smith should provide an estimate of
floor space, power and cooling requirements. We should investigate the costs
of equipping various areas in B513 or elsewhere to accommodate this demand,
such as the Barn, the Tape Vault, a newly constructed mezzanine or a newly
constructed building.
ISSUES:
- Short and medium term power supplies need to be addressed. It was not felt
that cooling was a problem due to the over configured system installed.
- Access Control: There is a commitment to transfer to the CERN based Access
Control system. There may be some minor access control issues if we were to
use space in the barn as an extension to the computer room. It was felt that
if floor space could be found in B513 then it was worthwhile having access
control on the big, metal outer doors of the basement of B513.
- In order to clearly understand the power requirements, Mario will request
a peak and load test to be done on a rack of PC's. ACTION: MV.
- DJU and RPM will investigate potential space in the computer room, the
barn, the vault and the MG room. ACTION: DJU/RPM.
- DJU will follow up on the web based procedures for the elimination of
obsolete equipment. ACTION: DJU.
- TC will liaise with I.Reguero and J-M.Jouanigot about placing
multi-service (replicated) equipment to easy-access zones. ACTION: TC.
NEXT MEETING:
- Next meeting will be at 14:00 on Thursday 3rd February, 2000, in T.Cass'
office.
R.Minchin.
