Civil Engineering Work 19th February - 5th April 2002
Vault HVAC room
19th - 27th February
Walls are demolished, hvac equipment removed and concrete supports
demolished. Note the interesting use of tape shelving units in the 3rd
picture!
13th - 22nd March
The duct feeding the hvac unit with fresh air is demolished (this will be
routed under the false floor in future) and the walls of the new room are
built up.
MG Room HVAC room
20th February - 1st March
The supporting walls and the dalle holorib are demolished. Initially, this
was done by ramming the walls and watching the dalle fall! Safer methods
were introduced later...
The "holorib" sheeting which supported the concrete sheeting can be seen
in the 4th picture.
The final picture shows a view through into the former CS storage area; a
new wall will be built here in line with the rest of the back wall.
6th - 19th March
Building up the walls between the vault and the storage areas.
UPS battery room
20th February - 22nd March
The door into the vault is blocked off and the cloison covering the brick
wall is replaced—evidently this wall was built from the
inside of the battery area.
Turning the old MG room into new storage space
26th February
The left hand picture shows the inside wall of the MG room with the
grilles for air to come from the plenum. This wall is knocked down
(pictures 2 & 3) as the plenum is no longer needed.
The door into the hvac plant room (picture 2) will be bricked up. Picture
4 shows a new wall being built up here (and the left edge shows some of
the new cloisons.)
The last two pictures show work to break openings into the Saleve side
corridor; the final picture shows clearly the blocking up of the former
doors into the MG room.
Small items
Filling in the grooves from the old tape rack rails.
Cutting a hole so
the smoke extraction duct can connect to the chimney.
