Computer Centre Upgrade for LHC Computing
Building a new substation
An area of some 380m2 is required to house all of the equipment
associated with the new substation for the computer centre. As only 180m2
is available already, an additional 200m2 has to be found. Various
alternatives were investigated, but the best solution seems to be the creation
of a bunker under the main car park, as shown below. The principle of such a
bunker was approved at the Site Committee meeting of February 14th,
2002. Detailed planning work is now underway.
